A Little Behind

For all my loyal followers.....yep, I'm a little behind.....actually a lot behind, but I thought it would be cuter to have a picture of a baby bum and not the alternative. Please stay tuned for more posts.......arriving shortly.......hopefully! :)
Desiree, I hope you don't mind me "borrowing" a little behind from you.

Day Full of Bugs

On Tuesday Haleigh had quite the "buggy" day. She first went to bug camp which was held at Thanksgiving Point for about three hours. It was a day camp where the kids played bug games, ate snacks, and learned all about different types of bugs. Haleigh was able to go with her good friend, Emily and she hasn't stopped talking about it. Haleigh also brought home a beetle larvae that she so ingeniously named "Beetle". She has carried Beetle around with her everywhere. She reads Beetle stories, takes him/her for rides in her doll stroller, tucks Beetle into his/her little crib at night, and I'm sure she is actually doing other things such as singing Beetle songs when I'm not observing. She wants to keep Beetle forever. This girl just simply loves bugs. Today I found an ant in the house and she swears that Beetle invited him to Trevor's birthday party, but I guess she was a little too late saving Mr. Ant because Mommy squished it with a tissue before she could protest. Part of me hates the fact that my little girl loves bugs, snakes, lizards, and spiders (oh, and don't forget scorpions), but part of me is so fascinated that my little girl is fascinated by these itty bitty creatures. I think the only bug that Haleigh has really shown any objection to are flies. She has even quizzed Matt and I by asking us, "why did Heavenly Father make flies?", to which we have no logical reply. Matt of course told her it was because they eat poop.....is that really a necessity? I told her that I had no idea why Heavenly Father made flies, but that I'm sure there must be a good reason for them; I just haven't figured that good reason out. Right now I can see Haleigh's future job as being either a Botanist (she loves plants and collecting leaves and grass), a Petrologist (she's even more obsessed with collecting rocks but isn't too particular to what they look like as long as it's a rock), a Paleontologist (she loves dinosaurs, rocks, and dirt....couldn't be a better fit), or an Entomologist (of course.....the bug factor). Naturally she would be a ballet dancer, hair dresser, or princess on the side.
Later that same day Haleigh went with Matt and I to the Bee's game. (one of Utah's minor league baseball teams). The last time we had gone to a Bee's game I had been pregnant so the seats were a lot more comfortable and we only had to visit the restrooms twice. I think Haleigh had a great time at the game. A few highlights of the game were:
#1-just being missed by a foul ball......really folks, it was a close one. I should have brought my glove because I could have reached out a caught it easily. I wish I would have brought my glove because it would have saved the poor guy that got hit with the ball.
#2-Haleigh getting to meet Bumble the Bee. It took a little coercing but I finally got her to pose for a photo with the Bee. I find this quite funny because she had no problem with Mickey and the other characters at Disneyland. Of course the winning deal maker was popcorn.....Haleigh will do just about anything for popcorn.
#3-the pitcher giving up only two hits the entire game. It wasn't too exciting for Haleigh, but it was impressive for Matt and I to watch.
#4-last but not least was the food. Baseball games are always a good excuse to eat bad food (as in bad for you food). We had a little popcorn, hot dogs, and cotton candy and loved every minute of it.
I don't have any photos of Bug Camp because it was a drop off type of camp, but I wish I could have seen Haleigh experiencing all the fun bug activities.
Enjoy the Bee's game photos, though.

Haleigh and Trevor's photo shoot

I made a slide show of the photos from Haleigh and Trevor's photo shoot because there were so many good ones. I still could only put 50 photos in the slide show so there are more that aren't included. I hope you enjoy the ones I selected. I would love to know which ones are favorites in your eyes. Let me know!

In the Midst of the Mist

It has been raining here a lot and I'm not just saying that. Ask any Utahan at this very moment and they'll say, "yes, it's rained too much in the past two weeks". Normally we are in our dry and hot weather by now, but it's actually been a nice change to have some cool days and nights. I don't think I've turned the air or heat on in over a month! That's a nice break on every one's pocketbooks I'm sure. The only down side to having this much rain is that the kids don't get to go outside and a lot of planned outdoor events get cancelled or postponed. Luckily the few things our family had planned for outside in the past couple weeks have worked on the days they were scheduled.
Just this past Friday I took Matt to Lagoon (for non-local readers this is Utah's one and only amusement park) for an early Father's Day present. Friday was the only day this past week that you could actually see the sun and so I knew we had miraculously picked the right day. My mom was nice enough to come down to watch the kids while Matt and I enjoyed some alone time screaming and panicking as we were tossed and turned on various rides. I have to say that I had quite a good time and we were even more excited that we found some perfect little souvenirs for both the kids. We found a nice bug bracelet for Haleigh (a bracelet with an actual bug inside) and I won a Cookie Monster and Big Bird for Trevor playing one of the "midway" dart games.
Haleigh had her second to last t-ball game on Saturday in between rain storms and it's fun to see the development and progress she's achieved. She definitely hits the ball better and is spending less time picking grass and filling her hat with it. She's getting very excited to start soccer in the fall.
Last week one of my neighbors and friends, Lyndsey Fagerland was nice enough to come over and take some photos of the kids. We took some indoors and then headed over to the park to take some outdoor shots. I was so happy that the weather stayed nice and calm for us while we were out.
Last, but not least, we are yet again tempting fate on Tuesday by taking Haleigh to a Salt Lake Bee's game (minor league baseball). Kids eat free on Tuesday and we're wondering how we are going to convince the attendant that our daughter can eat three hot dogs and three sodas with candy on the side. (just kidding.....Jeff Snider reminded me that it will be a lot easier to prove that then to get out of hell for lying so I guess we'll pay for our food. ha ha). Let's just hope that the weather is pleasant enough to enjoy a nice baseball game with our 4-year old daughter.

Another big step

I feel like Haleigh has finally let go of everything "baby" in my eyes. I guess all she has left to loose are baby teeth and I'll probably be very emotional about that, too. Today we set up Haleigh's new twin size bed and took her toddler bed down. I don't know why I'm getting so emotional about it, but I guess it's the same as taking down the bassinet, the crib, the changing table, and getting rid of diapers. They are welcome milestones, but yet you catch yourself wishing that your little baby was just that again....a little baby. I know I haven't even begun to experience the joy and anguish of "letting go" but this is quite enough for me. I love my little baby, Haleigh and am so proud of what a beautiful little girl she is, inside and out.

Our first trip this year

It seems like we spend at least a couple days at Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point during the summer. We wanted to get out of the house one day and so we made our first trip this year to Farm Country a couple weeks ago. Trevor and Haleigh both loved the goats and the pony rides. It was a great time to go because there were so many baby animals. They had baby goats, Canadian geese, ponies, ducks, horses, cows, and pigs. A couple of the goats had just been born the weekend before we went and there was a baby horse that had just been born the day previous to us being there. It was so exciting to see the kid's reactions to all the cute farm animals and to enjoy some time with our friends, the Stocks. After we looked at the animals we ate our lunch on the picnic tables and had a wonderful time in the sunshine.

Eagle Mountain 5K

So, I ran my first 5K on Saturday. It felt good to finally compete in something like this. I wanted to do a little better but I had shoulder and neck problems along with knee problems and so I knew going into it I wasn't going to do as well as I would probably like. I also had not been very diligent in my training and had only gone running probably once or twice in the month prior to racing so it wasn't really in the cards to do my best. I gave it a try, though and I'm so glad I did it. Now I'm more motivated to stick with it and start eating more healthy. I know that's my biggest downfall right now is not picking the correct nutrition for my body. I was so happy to have my sister, Kandi and my sister-in-law, Jennifer with me to share this experience. I can't wait to run another one of these things with these awesome two girls! I love them! I contemplated posting this photo of us because I look simply gross after running and getting up at 5:45 in the morning, but I can handle it. Sorry, I'm no Angelina Jolie but that's what you get. Thanks to my awesome brother, Quin and brother-in-law, Clint for watching the kids while we all ran. You guys rock! Next time you'll have to babysit while us girls go out and use our feet in a different way.....maybe a pedicure or something...ha ha.

Haleigh's 4th Birthday Party

I feel like I'm slowly catching up with all that happened in the busy month of May. On the Saturday following Haleigh's birthday we had a birthday party with all her friends. It took us a while to decide what type of party she wanted. For the longest time she wanted a Wall-E party, but then after she saw Monsters vs. Aliens she wanted; you guessed it, a Monsters vs. Aliens party. Then we happened to watch Marley and Me and her mind was then changed again......how in the world do you throw a Marley and Me birthday party? Well, I finally talked Haleigh into a Jungle party because it would be easy to find decorations and invitations (or so I thought) because of the general nature of the theme. I ended up finding a lot of cute things from the dollar store which crossed over into the Luau genre but it still looked "jungley". I even found some blow up monkeys to hang from the ceiling and that turned out really fun. My friend, Kara lent us a monkey bouncy house and some really cute jungle decorations as well. I think the party was a hit. We had it set up in different stations with particular games that the kids could play. We rotated two groups of kids around to the bouncy house, refreshment station (with watermelon and grapes), Hippos in the mud game (much like musical chairs but the kids would crawl on their hands and knees through the "mud" and whoever got caught in the mud was out), Feed the Animals game, animal toss game, and a dinosaur dig game. I had Jungle Book playing on the television and I played the Madagascar 2 CD for the kids to listen to during the party. I found a really cute snake cake in one of my sister's cookbooks a while back and it turned out perfectly for the party. Especially because Haleigh loves snakes so much. After we played games we came inside and opened presents and then lit the candles for a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday. Haleigh loved being in the spotlight and it took about three or four times to blow out her candles. I think the party was a success and the kids were happy to all go home with a jungle gift bag and an inflatable monkey with a balloon at the end. My friend and Haleigh's primary teacher, Lyndsey was kind enough to come and take photos of the whole event so that was one thing I didn't have to worry about at all. Thanks to all who came and made Haleigh's party such a fun time. Thanks to all who helped me with ideas, pictures, decorations, and helping the kids play games. I appreciate and love you all....and so does Haleigh.

I hope you enjoy the slide show of photos that were taken at the party. They all turned out beautifully. If you want to view bigger versions of the photos I think you can click on the slide show itself and it will take you to the link for better viewing. To those that have children in the photos I probably have more photos of your child besides the ones that are in the slide show. If you want me to email you copies of the photos of your kids I would be happy to.

Clark Family Reunion 2009

I'm finally trying to catch up for the month of May. Really, where did May go!!??? May is always busy for our family because we have my birthday, mother's day, Haleigh's birthday, and our anniversary all in a two week span of time. This year we decided to throw a family vacation in with all those other celebrations. We left on Sunday the 10th (Mother's Day) to fly to San Diego. There we met up with Matt's mom, Kathy his sister, Melissa, and his brother, Mike and Mike's wife, Michele and their boy, Brandon. The kids got to go swimming the first day and it felt good to dip in the pool with the kids. This was Trevor's first experience with swimming and he absolutely LOVED it! That night we drove down to a place called the The Fish Market that is right on the water. It was a beautiful setting and it was so nice to enjoy one another's company.

Day #2
We decided to spend our first official day of vacation at the San Diego Zoo. We had such a great time looking at the animals, spending time as family, and enjoying the warm sunshine and small crowds. The zoo was huge and by the end of the day we were certainly ready for some rest. Trevor had a great time looking at animals and being outside. Haleigh especially loved the reptile house and bug house. She spent the most time looking at snakes, spiders, cockroaches, bees, and ants. Go figure. After we got back to the hotel we enjoyed a good dinner at Hooters. It was a great day hanging out and looking at the animals.

Day #3
We decided to spend our next day at Sea World in San Diego. Sea World has always been one of our favorite places to take Haleigh because she loves watching the shows, and frankly, so do I. Deep down I've always wanted to be a Shamu trainer and it just brings back a lot of childhood memories and dreams when I'm there. I think every one's favorite show was the Pet show. Wouldn't you know it; the most popular of the shows doesn't even have to do with whales, dolphins, or sea lions. They also had a fun Sesame Street play area with rides and toys to play on. The kids got to meet Elmo and Zoe from the show and Trevor grabbed onto Elmo and wouldn't let go (Elmo is one of his favorite people/monsters). They even had a nice little play area for babies that I could turn Trevor loose and let him crawl and play with soft blocks and other babies. He loved that because he had been either on some one's lap or in the stroller all day. After Sea World we ate at a nice Mexican restaurant just behind our hotel. We had an excellent waiter who kept us entertained and full. What more could you ask for?

Day #4
Our 4th day was a nice relaxing day of driving to Anaheim, checking into our hotel, and eating dinner at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland hotel. Grandma Clark was kind enough to have presents for all the kids for their birthdays and we celebrated Haleigh, Brandon, and Trevor's birthdays all in one. It was so much fun to see the kids with the characters and the food was very good. They had Goofy, Pluto, Max (Goofy's son), Captain Hook, Minnie Mouse, and Jasmine going around the room and meeting kids, taking photos, and signing autograph books. Every half hour or so they would have a little "show" with Goofy that the kids could participate in. We were very close to the middle of the room where they put on the show and so Haleigh and Brandon got every opportunity to get up close and personal with Goofy and the others. Haleigh danced the twist with Goofy, and the kids helped "make a cake" with Goofy among other things. Trevor got his chance with Minnie Mouse and loved every second of it. He grabbed her nose and made squealing noises. Trevor also met Pluto before we were seated and grabbed his nose and tried to eat it as well. He was also making eyes at Jasmine when she came by our table. It was such fun spending time with the characters, eating, and most of all: spending quality time with our extended family as well.

Day #5

Day five was our first official day at Disneyland. We decided to head back to Fantasyland first and get on the Nemo submarines because the line backs up fast on this new ride. One of the cast members running the ride noticed that we all had our family reunion shirts on and gave us all pins that said Family Reunion and had a picture of the Incredibles. They also gave us a special pass to get on a ride without waiting for the whole family. That's one reason I love Disney....they always have something special up their sleeves and I would love to work there to be able to make little, yet special things happen everyday to ordinary people just like ourselves. After visiting the Abbey Caddabey ride(where she literally screamed the whole time) at Sea World, Haleigh wasn't about to go on many rides this day so Matt had a great time taking Trevor on the rides that Haleigh wouldn't go on (pretty much everything). Trevor rode Dumbo with his arms in the air and he was very fond of the Pinocchio ride (I can see a cute Halloween costume in the future......the wheels are already turning). Haleigh got to ride her favorite ride (Small World) and meet some of the princesses and fairies so her day was complete with just those three things alone I think. Haleigh and Ariel (after the humanization of course)

Day #6
The second day at Disney was spent at Disney's California Adventure. I couldn't believe that some people had told me that you couldn't spend a whole day at this park. We found plenty to do and there were so many fun rides and shows. Our very first ride was the Midway Madness Toy Story ride. This ride was AWESOME! It was so much fun and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the park, but get in line early because this one backs up fast and it doesn't use a Fast Pass so there isn't any way around waiting. I could have ridden this ride all day long, but of course there were more things to ride, see, and do. I also because a big fan of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. This ride was so scary it was great! Loved it, loved it, loved it. I think Haleigh really liked California Adventure....she liked the Monsters Inc. ride, Playhouse Disney, and Turtle Talk with Crush. I really enjoyed this park because it was all new to me. The last time I'd been to Disneyland there was a parking lot where California Adventure is now. At the end of the day Matt's mom and sister were so kind to watch the kids while we went back and experienced the some of the rides at dark. Matt and I were actually celebrating our 11th anniversary (which was the following day) and we even had a romantic corn dog and soda before riding some puke inducing rides. Luckily we didn't have to worry about tasting our corn dogs for a second time. It was a fun place to spend our Anniversary Eve and I had a really good time with Matt and it sounded like the kids had a blast with Aunt Melissa and Grandma Clark. They ordered pizza, played games, watched television, and viewed the fireworks from the room.

Day #7
I'd have to say that day #7 was my favorite day at the park because it was Matt and my anniversary, but more importantly it was Haleigh's 4th birthday. She was able to get in for free for her birthday and because we had bought the passes before hand she got a $59 gift card (the price of her admission). Haleigh had also been saving up change for quite awhile and had accumulated $66 of her own. So, I told her on her birthday she could use her money for whatever she wanted and she chose the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique. We had made an appointment earlier in the week and we showed up at 8:30 that morning for Haleigh's make-over. It was the cutest darn thing I've ever seen in my life. Haleigh absolutely loved it and I have to hand it to her, she knew exactly what she wanted with her saved money and I think she got her money's worth. She was in heaven the whole time. With the extra $59 I was able to surprise her with a new dress-up dress that the "fairy god mother's in training" placed in one of the dressing rooms without Haleigh noticing. They walked her back to the room and had her turn around three times and say, "Bibbity, Bobbity, Boo!" and when they opened the curtain to her dressing area.....magically a dress had appeared. After she put the dress on she walked out to find a little boy her age dressed up like a knight/prince. He bowed; she curtsied and he escorted her back to her royal throne to finish her make-over. It was the sweetest thing I've ever seen and Haleigh and her prince (Sir Liem) looked like they were on top of the world. After Haleigh's hair was done, dress fluffed, make-up applied, nail polish on, and jewelry in place the spun her around to the curtains behind her. Her Fairy Godmother In Training opened the curtains to reveal a magic mirror that showed sparkles and grew flowers. The Fairy Godmothers also showed Haleigh how to make a princess pose (putting her hands together and laying her cheek on her hands and leaning her head to the side) and the princess wave (wash the windows, wash the windows, ooooops, missed a spot) that she can now display easily and proudly. After her make-over she went to meet the fairies again and just happened to meet her favorite fairy; Silvermist. The rest of the day was spent riding rides and trying to carry around our little princess with her fluffy dress and tired feet. It was so nice to hear and see total strangers stop and wish Haleigh, "Happy Birthday". She loved it and every once in a while someone would wish Matt and I a Happy Anniversary too. It was a great day! After we were done at the park we all got together and headed to Outback to eat dinner. It was such yummy food and we all had a fun time. Trevor, Haleigh, and Brandon all enjoyed the brownie that Haleigh got for her birthday. I think she had a wonderful day and it was all topped off by the fireworks that night that we observed perfectly from our room window. I love Haleigh so much and was so happy to see her have such a wonderful day full of magic and memories! She truly is a princess to me and I love seeing her grow. I also want Matt to know what a wonderful husband he is and here's to 11 more years! I love you honey!

Day #8 (All good things must come to an end)

I hate saying goodbye. I hate leaving Disney, when I can literally see it from my window. It makes me cry every time. I hate even more leaving loved ones and saying "goodbyes" to those we love and have missed so much. We drove back to San Diego airport with Grandma Clark and Aunt Melissa. Uncle Mike, Aunt Michele, and cousin Brandon had left from Anaheim to drive back to Manteca, CA. It was such a good trip and I think Momma Clark defined it exactly right as "perfect". It was so good to see everyone from all over the world. Aunt Melissa had come all the way from England and it was so good to finally see her again. It had been entirely too long. Even though we are all back to our normal, everyday lives I know these memories will live in our hearts and remind us of each other and how much we love each other. Thank you all for such good memories to carry with us forever!

Gotta Love 'Em

I know it's been a long time......get ready for a mega post of our vacation, Haleigh's birthday and various other things, but for now enjoy these random photos (because I'm just too lazy to think about blogging about all the things I need to catch up on) that I love, love, love:
This is recent photo taken on our vacation. I love Matt's expression and I'd love help thinking of the perfect caption for this one....it makes me laugh everytime I look at it.

Trevor when he was first learning how to pull himself up. I love his cute smiley face because he looks so proud of himself.

One of Haleigh's new inventions. It's a umbrella with a dryer/warmer attached to help blow you dry and keep you warm while the umbrella protects you from the rain. Not a bad idea! I love how a little kid's mind works.

This is one of my favorites. I caught Haleigh and Trevor both reading in Trevor's room. So, so cute!

Photo Op

My friend, Amy, had the cutest photo on her blog of Haleigh with Kason and her coach (Kason's Daddy). I had to post it because it was so adorable. They actually look like they're paying attention to what is happening and they are even in their "ready" stance.

T-Ball Is For The Turtles

Haleigh has started T-ball this year and she had her first game as a turtle (their team name) this morning. The kids all got their bigger-than-life uniforms and hats on before the game, warmed up with some throwing, did a team cheer, and then they were ready to play. Basically the rules are that every person on the team bats while the other team "fields" the balls, the kids run around the bases, and then the other team does the same thing. Each team does this twice and the game is over. No points, no outs, no strikes, just a lot of fun with 3 and 4 year olds. It was so fun to watch the kids get excited, and then sidetracked, and then bored all in the space of a half hour's time. Haleigh made good use of her outfield time by dancing, conversing with other players, and sitting down. When running the bases Haleigh had to hold on to her helmet by the holes I guess to make sure it didn't fall off, and when she would stop at the bases she would introduce herself to the baseman and start up a conversation, because really what is baseball without a good one-on-one with someone from the other team. I'm excited to see how the kids do next week and I have a blast watching the game with all the other parents.
Grandma and Grandpa Bryner were able to come watch Haleigh play in her first T-ball game. After the game we all went to Chili's for lunch. Haleigh had a grilled cheese sandwich (any good baseball player knows that's the lunch of champions) which she shared with Trevor. Trevor was very thankful. It was a fun eventful day and I'm looking forward to more T-ball adventures this spring.

T-Ball, Potty Party, Rearranging

Well, today started off with Trevor sleeping until 8 AM and Haleigh sleeping until 9 AM. Thank you, thank you kids....way to start the day off right! Haleigh hurried and got her "practice" clothes on, packed up her t-ball stuff, and we all walked down to the park for her first T-ball practice. There were a lot of boys on her team and one other girl. It was so much fun to get out and watch kids having fun and learning about baseball. There are a few really good sluggers on Haleigh's team. Haleigh is definitely part tom-boy and part princess because she'll swing that bat as hard as most the boys, but she gets quite dainty when actually hitting the ball. She'll swing hard, but then stop right before the bat gets to the ball and then lightly tap the ball off the tee. She's kind of the same way when she throws. We've taught her that she needs to lead with her opposite foot when throwing but sometimes it seems like the throw comes before the step or she just doesn't dare throw the ball hard.

After we got home from T-ball practice we had time for lunch and a little quiet time before heading out to a princess potty party. What's a princess potty party you ask? Well, it's one of the cutest ideas I've seen and it was for our adorable neighbor Hannah Martins. She has just officially been potty trained and so her mom put together a cute princess party for some of the neighborhood girls. All the girls were invited to show up in their princess attire at the royal Martins castle. I love our neighborhood because there are always such cute things going on and Haleigh has so many little friends to share her days with. I think Niki did such a great job coming up with cute games to play and activities to keep the girls busy. Thanks Niki and congratulations Hannah!!!
Haleigh enjoying a princess cupcake

Playing hot slipper....the girls had to pass the slipper as fast as they could around the circle and when the music stopped that person was out. Haleigh won this little game and she was so happy about it. She said she just didn't want to get burned. Makes sense.

Haleigh is way off this time. I think she actually went all the way over to the wall

All the girls gathered at the princess table.

After getting home from the party we decided to rearrange Trevor's room. He is getting too big for his changing table because of his height, but more because of his constant wiggling. It's easier and safer to just change him on the floor so that he doesn't flip or twist himself off the edge of his table. It was nice to get rid of the table because there will be more room now for him to crawl or walk around and play. While I was moving the furniture around I caught both Haleigh and Trevor looking at books and luckily had placed the camera conveniently on Trevor's dresser. I love that they both love books and reading. Trevor, unfortunately, also loves the tearing of pages so we have to make sure all his books are the hard cardboard ones for now. Now we just need to finish rearranging Haleigh's room so she has more room and we're on our way!

Haleigh Is Teaching Me Spanish

This conversation was just too cute to not blog about. The other day we were driving home and this conversation began:

Haleigh : "Mommy...know what....

Me: "What, sweetie"

Haleigh: "Some people call Daddy's work, Lowes"

Me: "Yeah, you're right"

Haleigh: "Did you know that Lowes is spanish for Daddy's work?"

Me: "nope. Didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know"

Too cute. I guess it can get kind of confusion when there is more than one term for a particular person, place, or thing. To her it probably is just like another language. The more I teach Haleigh about words and their meaning and how to read the more I wonder how I ever figured it out. English is hard!
